Welcome to Ilminster - one of South Somerset's most thriving towns. Ideally situated just off the A303 and within easy reach of the M5 the town is less than 30 minutes from both Taunton and Yeovil whilst the cities of Exeter, Bath and Bristol are less than an hour away.
The town is rapidly expanding and now has a population of around 5,500, clustered around a charming central Market Square with many fine 17th, 18th and early 19th century ham-stone buildings. It has a well deserved reputation as a retailing centre with many high quality specialist shops.
Industry is focussed on a few first class companies, including Gooch and Housego who are world leaders in optical-switching. Much of the rest of the industrial base supports the surrounding agricultural industry. There is a robust professional support base in banking, insurance, real estate, legal and accountancy services.
